Relaxation Recording
This recording includes a combination of the Container Exercise and Calm Place Exercise. The Container exercise is for the purpose of containing negative or disturbing thoughts or emotions until a person feels ready to address them. The calm place exercise is to assist in calming the mind and body to facilitate serenity. These can be done with a therapist, or with the recording. It helps if these are done in a time and place where there will be minimal or no interruptions. The time is just under 12 minutes. The recording includes instructions for bilateral stimulation, which is a component of EMDR. The benefits of bilateral stimulation help the emotional and rational parts of the brain communicate, thus imbedding relaxation and safety into the nervous system.
Instructions for bilateral stimulation:
The Butterfly Hug: Cross your arms over your chest and tap your hands left and right in alternating rhythm. Your hands should not be touching in order to achieve bilateral stimulation effectiveness.
Tapping on your knees: Place your hands on your knees and tap left and right in alternating rhythm. Your hands should not be touching in order to achieve bilateral stimulation effectiveness.
